Obituary for Lucille Barnett Switzer Lucille Barnett Switzer
Albemarle County Native Was Longtime Covington Area Resident

Lucille Barnett Switzer, 95, of 2610 Valley Ridge Road, Covington, Virginia died Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at her residence.

Mrs. Switzer was born June 5, 1924 in Albemarle County, a daughter of the late Jessie L. Barnett and Myrtle E. Barnett Rorrer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Switzer in 1990; two daughters, Sharon Small in 2004 and Shelia Reed in 2018; a son, Lewis W. Switzer in 1952; a sister, Maude Gibson in 1996; and two brothers Mason Barnett and Dan Rorrer.

She worked at the Rayon Plant from 1942-1945. She loved to cook, garden, and enjoyed crocheting, babysitting and raising kids.

Surviving are her grandchildren, Chris Smith and wife, Janice of Clifton Forge; Tabatha Small and Amy Small, both of Iron Gate and Janice Montgomery of Salem; eight great grandchildren, James Smith, Caitlyn Tierney, Ryan Tierney, William Small, Elizabeth Small, Deamien Small, Kayelynn Dickson, and Carter Montgomery; three sisters, Phyllis Michau, Emily Coffey and Doris Swenson; a sister-in-law, Alice Barnett and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating, assisted by the Rev. J. B. Broughman.

The interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive their friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

The Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia, is in charge of arrangements.
