Obituary for Max Lee Nunley Max Lee Nunley
Quinwood Native Was All-State Football Player, Former Hercules/AET Employee

Max Lee Nunley, aged 78, of Covington, Virginia, passed on November 28, 2019.

Max was born in Quinwood, WV on June 13, 1941. He was the son of late Guy W. Nunley and Lorna Orndoff Nunley.

Max was a 1959 graduate of Crichton High School in Quinwood, WV, where he played basketball and was an all-state football player. He was recruited by WVU, VT and several other schools for football.

He was married to the love of his life, Sue McMillion, in February of 1961, after which they made their home in Covington, Virginia. He was a dedicated employee of AET/Hercules for years. He enjoyed hunting and working in his yard and was an avid reader and aficionado of the Civil War.

In addition to his parents, Max was preceded in death by his wife, Sue McMillion Nunley; a sister, Sheila Nunley Jones; brother-in-law, Elward Jones and brother-in-law, Bulis "Booty" Sexton.

He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Shari Green (Chris) of Denver, NC, Lisa Wilkinson (John) of Kernersville, NC and Kara Asboth (Sandor) of Clifton Forge, VA. He was a proud and loved "Papa" to eleven grandchildren: Courtney Green, Caitlin Cox (Nick), Kelsey Thompson (Michael), Callie and Camryn Green, Brooke Simmons (Chris), Paige Voss (Austin), Johnsie Wilkinson, Bentleigh, Grayson and Carter Asboth; and ten great-grandchildren: Turner Thompson, Dakota, Avery, and Parker Cox, Lexi Wilkinson, Andon, Mason and Sadie Simmons, and Emmett and baby Voss; as well as his brother, Daniel Nunley (Brenda); sister-in-law, Sandra Sexton, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be directed to the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.
