Obituary for Dawn (Jill) Curtis Kern Dawn (Jill) Curtis Kern
Former Clifton Forge Resident Dies At Age 69

Dawn (Jill) Curtis Kern, age 69, of Buena Vista, Virginia and formerly of Clifton Forge, Virginia died Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the Golden Living Center-Shenandoah Valley Nursing Home, Buena Vista.

She was born October 3, 1950 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Thomas Young Curtis and Helen Marie Black Curtis Brady.

She was a counselor for Alleghany Highlands Social Services, and also worked at Jane Colby apparel for a number of years. She was a member of Living Stones Ministry Church, enjoyed gardening and canning food.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Allen Kern.

She is survived by a daughter, Shannon Lynn Kern of Clifton Forge; a son, Jody Allen Kern of Covington; a brother, Monte F. Curtis, Sr., of Clifton Forge; a sister in law, Patricia Kern Cumor and husband, Roland of Naples, Fl; a granddaughter, Lexy Kern and her mother, Lori Kern; a great granddaughter, Isabelle Powell; a step father, Lee Brady of Clifton Forge; two nephews, Frankie and Thomas Curtis; and dear friend, Debbie Elmo.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Pastor Mike Rollins officiating. Interment will follow at Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home. A luncheon will be held at Hillcrest Mansion Inn following the memorial service.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Living Stones Ministries, 100 Griffith Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia 24422.
